Have We Taken "Commenting" for Granted When It Comes To Reading Others' Blogs?

Have We Taken "Commenting" for Granted When It Comes To Reading Others' Blogs?

How often do we really take the trouble to leave behind a comment?

Now that we have read the blogger's thoughts (and maybe benefitted from it), and probably the thoughts of others through the comments left behind, why don't we give some of our thoughts in return too?

Many of my friends and buddies (online and in real life) read my blogs. But they seldom leave behind any comments. I knew they came. I knew they stayed around to read. I knew they pondered. But then, they just left. Why? Because most of them feel they have not much to say or nothing "valuable" to contribute to the discussion!!!

Haha, too bad that many people think like that. Actually, I don't know about other bloggers and YOU, but for me personally, I appreciate and take delight in reading EVERY comment left behind. Regardless of what others write or how they write it ... it is always a joy for me to see that someone has taken the trouble to actually share a little bit of their thoughts and views. Comments help a blogger "connect" to the readers and other fellow bloggers. It keeps the discussion alive and very often the blog too.

I still remember fondly the excitements I felt when I first started blogging back in the 2nd quarter of 2004 with my first blog. Haha ... I actually checked my blog every day for comments from anybody who actually discover and come across my blog. Whenever I see one or 2 comments, I would be delighted. And when there were more, I would be very happy. In fact, one day, I was so happy to see that there were almost 30 comments left behind about one of my topics on North American Indian names. Boy, I was in for a surprise when 20+ of them were actually spams!!! Haha ... :)

Anyway, one need not be superb in the English language, or possess great writing skill in order to leave behind a comment. Just say what you want to say (with a little tacktact and / or gracious heart if you could, but if not, never mind). Just tell the blogger what you think or feel. Yep, as simple as that. Don't just read a blog and then walk away. Be generous a bit and leave behind a few words to "complete the circle" ... hehe :)

cheers

ps. for those of you who have been reading my BLOGs for so long without leaving behind any comment, I know who you are and I will track you down ... nyek nyek nyek!!!!

I would tend to agree, To me comments are what gives back for what i post. But it is too often that peope seems to prefer just not to say anything.....a shame as they could help to shape a blog

TSOs: thank you for your comment. yep, hopefully more people would learn to understand and acknowledge the importance of helping enrich fellow bloggers' life through their comments. cheers :)

KY: hehe, actually depends lah. some topics and some blogs get higher number of comments whereas some get less or none at all. :)

MS: haha, i am not complaining lah. i am just sharing my thought. when i complain, trust me, it is very very different (like banging of table and spitting on floor for example). 8|

I comment when I've got something to add... most of the time it's not worth bothering.

To be honest, I like comments that actually say something - not those "me too" comments, so I tend to comment in that manner myself.

Comments are not that important compared to the content of the blog. If someone comment fine...if nobody does, it is still ok.

Sashi: yeah, i FULLY agree. what goes around comes around ... like a boomerang ... unless stuck in some tree branches or the neck of a dead deer ... hehe. but how come you never comment in any of my (now almost 30) blogs? hehe :)

I try my best to comment in other people's blogs whenever I visit them. However, there are some topics which I find difficult to offer any input (i.e. high tech stuff) so i thought... better keep quiet rather than say something stupid, hehe.
But I do agree with you. It is very encouraging to get comments from your readers, and the excitement of knowing that what you write actually strikes a chord with your readers is really really satisfying.
I just wish that my OneStat would tell me who are those people reading my blog from Japan, HK, Phillipines etc. I am totally in a blur.
SPeaking of blur... the haze conditions in kch just took a turn for the worse. Yikes.

Miracle8: yep. comments do mean a lot to many bloggers, and we are 2 of them. keep blogging and commenting. it is always a joy and delight for me to read your blog and also to get comments from you on my blogs. thank you and let's enjoy blogging ... despite the haze situation. rain or shine, haze or no haze ... we blog and comment. hehe :)

Aww... its nice to know that my "ramblings" are well received, hehe. I try not to take anything for granted nowadays... good blogs, lovely comments, stable job, etc. Sometimes when things become routine, you tend to take it for granted until one day it is taken away from you and you wondered what made it go away in the first place.
Yeah, haze or no haze, come rain or shine, my fingers will still attack the keyboard with much enthusiasm. Long live bloggers!
